“Modern day vampire hunters wage a brutal battle against the undead in the nation’s capital.
As former Boston cops, Drake Matthews and Alison Monroe thought they had experienced it all… until they found themselves tracking down a serial killer who turned out to be one of the undead. Stopping him cost them their careers and almost their lives.
Thanks to an influential and anonymous benefactor, Drake and Alison find a new job ridding the streets of Washington D.C. of the vampiric threat terrorizing the nation’s capital.
Only this time, Drake and Alison are not facing a single vampire but an entire nest led by Ion Zielenska, one of history’s most evil and twisted masters. As the vampires indiscriminately prey on humans, seeing them as nothing more than food to satiate their hunger, they create a wave of violence that threatens to engulf the city.
Orchestrating the carnage is Antoinette Varela, the mistress of the nest, whose vendetta against the hunters is personal.”
Yes, fellow undead lovers another Vampire Trilogy. I consider that a good thing and those that know me and follow my on-line work know that I am a vampire fanatic. By that I mean real vampires, the undead creatures that prey on humans for survival, not the glorified sissy boy vampires that keep getting shoved down our throats.
And thankfully for those of us who love our vampires as monsters Scott M. Baker gets it. He has crafted a simply fabulous vampire tale that you can really sink your teeth into..(pun intended). His vampires are cruel, sadistic, bloodthirsty and decadently evil, just the way I like them. No sparkly vampires here!!!
Even though Scott’s vampires are wonderful, it is his two main characters that shine in the book for me. Drake and Allison are excellent characters that I came to really care about. They have a realness about them that really helps in losing yourself in the story. And that my friends is what really does it for me.
That is not to say that Scott’s main vampires are not worthy…they are. Ion Zielenska is fabulous as a master vampire and probably one of the most depraved and sickest one’s I’ve read about. But his wife and partner in undeath Antoinette Varela stole the show for me. She is an awesome vampire and I am looking forward to reading more about her in the next book.
If you’ve read Justin’s Cronin’s “The Passage” and Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s “The Strain”, you will absolutely love “The Vampire Hunters”.
Vampire lovers rejoice, this is a good time to be a lover of vampire fiction and “The Vampire Hunters” should be at the top of your TBR pile. I highly recommend it.
