As our ongoing celebration of all things that go bump in the night continues, I humbly present what I feel are some of the best stories to get you in the Halloween mood. If you haven’t read these yet you might want to get out from under that rock more often…
.
The Exorcist – William Peter Blatty – The scariest book I ever read…period. I couldn’t sleep for days after reading this.
Dracula - Bram Stoker – Need I say more.
The Haunting Of Hill House – Shirley Jackson – The best haunted house/ghost story ever.
Ghost Story – Peter Straub – I read this by candlelight two nights in a row…then the nightmares began.
Salem’s Lot - Stephen King – The modern equivalent to Bram Stoker’s classic. No sparkling vampires here.
Black Cathedral – Maynard & Sims – The first chapter alone is enough to keep you awake for days.
Blood Red – James A. Moore – Another modern vampire classic, the vampires are decadently evil and revel in their hunger for blood.
Hell Hollow – Ronald Kelly – An absolutely wonderful coming of age novel with enough frights to send you under the covers.
The Premature Burial – Edgar Allen Poe – The most nerve rattling short story I have ever read. If you are claustrophobic, this short story will send you screaming out into the night.
The Hollower & Found You – Mary SanGiovanni – Mary’s Hollowers are the best new monsters to come along in a long time.
The Rising & City of the Dead – Brian Keene – Zombie fiction at it’s finest.
Covenant & Sacrifice – John Everson – Great characters, great storyline, demons threatening our world…what more do you need.
I could go on and on but I think you would enjoy any of above mentioned stories.
Check back often as we continue to celebrate our favorite time of year.
