A Sad Day Indeed

As many of you that are horror fiction fans have heard over the last few weeks Leisure Books / Dorchester Publishing have closed their mass market horror line. To put it bluntly this really sucks.

There wasn’t a better deal in horror fiction than their Horror Book Club. For $10.50 a month you would get two new mass market paperbacks delivered to your doorstep.

Because of Dorchester I found a lot of new writers that I probably wouldn’t have discovered. Did I like every book or author…no. But the good far outweighed the bad.

The man who created Dorchester’s horror line Don D’Auria apparently has been let go along with editorial director Leah Hultenschmidt. A sad day indeed.

Damn this digital age, damn it to hell. What are we book lovers going to do now? I know my book budget just increased. I refuse to use any of today’s electronic reading devices. All of you know how I feel about books from one of my previous posts, which can be found here.

Our only hope is that another publisher picks up Mr. D’Auria and convinces him to continue what he was doing with Dorchester. We of course have a vast array of small press publishers to choose from but you will not find their books as inexpensive as Dorchester’s.

I will continue to support Mr. D’Auria wherever he chooses to go and will continue to buy books, but I will have to trim some from my other activities to keep up with my voracious reading habit.
